Thermal Protective Performance

Thermal Protective Performance - ISO 17492
The Thermal Protective Performance test (TPP) was developed by DuPont in the 1970’s. This method sets the conditions of a realistic exposure of combined radiant and convective heat. It can be used to test fabric systems, and enables differentiation of performance between various materials.

This test evaluates how well a fabric or a system provides a barrier to and insulation from heat and flame, by predicting the incident heat energy required on the outer surface of a fabric system to cause 2nd degree burns on human skin at the back of the fabric system.

The heat source comprises of 50% radiant heat and 50% convective heat, with a flux of 84 kW/m² (approximately 2 cal/cm²/sec).
